Hello and welcome to my website!
Growing up in Lima, Perú, I was the kid always painting and drawing, dreaming of becoming an artist. I loved collecting stationery, especially Sarah Kay's vintage designs. Strawberry Shortcake and Snoopy were my other favorites!
But instead of pursuing art, my life took me on a different route. I moved to Germany and followed a career in the world of academia. It was later in life and when I was living in Florida that I rediscovered my love for art, and opened my business Designs by Moni, a line of whimsical greeting cards featuring watercolor illustrations inspired by my imaginary whimsical world.
I have always loved greeting cards, both giving and receiving them. Back in the day, I used to paint original drawings and give them to friends and family every Christmas and on special events. The cards I've received over the years, I still keep today, in pretty boxes tied with ribbons. From time to time I go in and look at the cards, and can’t help tearing up remembering those special moments and friends, some of whom are no longer with me physically but forever present in my heart.
A greeting card is one of the simplest ways to show how much we care. My wish is that the person who receives the card will be touched by my art and moved by the loving words of the person who sent it. Maybe that card will be treasured and kept in a special place, like mine are.
My illustrations depict a cute narrative with loving characters that bring back sweet memories of a happy childhood. Bringing sunshine and optimism to the person who receives the card -- and to the one who gives it -- is my best reward.
My cards are available in galleries and stores in Alexandria, Louisiana, and throughout Florida, including Books & Books in Miami.
